....And ended up leaving with a root canal. I had a dentist appointment last Tuesday. While there, I mentioned that my left rear molar, on the bottom jaw, had been bugging me. Cold, or hot liquids made it hurt. When I gargled with Listerine that morning, it was extremely painful. It was something that had just cropped up, but seemed to be progressively worse. The dentist poked and prodded around, and told me that they would try to get by with a crown. It had a 50-50 chance of working. Otherwise, they would have to go with a root canal. The tooth has an old filling in it and had a crack somewhere around the filling. They squeezed me into an appointment today, so I wouldn't have to walk around in pain for too long. I get there today, and his assistant wanted to make a cast of my tooth. She fills this rubber mold with some cold, pink goo and slaps it on my tooth. Now, you've got to realize that I have delivered three children, survived an auto accident and sprained my wrist. But, I have never, even felt pain like I did today when she slapped that cold, wet goo on my tooth. I bolted up out of the dentist chair and screamed. She was most apologetic. She didn't realize just how bad it was. She looked at me and said, "Honey, you're in here for a crown? I didn't know that you were in that much pain. I would have numbed it first. No one told me you were in this much pain. (Hell! I didn't even know that I was in that much pain.) This isn't a crown, you need a root canal. I am going to change the work order." So, several shots of Novacaine later, the dentist got to work. Now, I sit here, left side of face still numb, drool running down my chin. I'm worried about when the Novacaine wears off. He told me to take some Advil, before I go to bed. He also gave me a prescription for Vicodin, but he doesn't want me to fill it, unless I absolutely have to.
Posted by Valkyre at December 8, 2005 10:50 PMJeez, that sounds way worse than mine! I don't think you have to worry TOO much about when the pain wears off... I'd take advil, but hopefully the vicodin won't be necessary. When he did my root canal, the procedure was painless, and it was only a dull ache when the pain started back up later.

Posted by: Wendy at December 10, 2005 01:06 AMYeah, years ago. Do you remember when I got a crown put in? That was put in over the tooth that he did the root canal on. Yeah, Dr. Coser (did I spell it right?) did it, and I didn't realize he'd done the actual root canal until it was already finished!
