Laci Peterson

I don't know if you know her story..... Today is kind of a bittersweet day, she was due to give birth to her baby today. She disappeared, from her Modesto, California home, last Christmas Eve. You can read her story here on a website that was set up for her. She and her husband, Scott Peterson, had already picked out a name, Connor or Conner. According to her husband, he set out to go fishing that day and Laci was going to take their dog for a walk. A neighbor found the dog, later, with the leash still attached. The police haven't named Scott as a suspect, but they haven't ruled him out. The web site above has links to various news stories about her disappearance. The Modesto Bee also has links to several articles about her.

My heart felt thoughts are with you and Laci's loved ones. Some day all of this will make sense. Must stay strong until that happens. Take care.

I was watching the news yesterday and saw some of the trial with Scott Peterson in his red jumpsuit, he has no remorse what so-ever does he?
He was just sitting there like nothing ever happened. I feel so bad for all of Laci's family, I lost my mother two years ago May16th due to heart failure, and that was really hard, but to not know how a member of your family was lost has to be worse!

My Condolences

I do grieve for all of Laci's family. The loss of both Laci and Conner has to be so great. The only thing I can do is pray that God can comfort you like no one else can. In your grief ... remember that "Joy Comes in the Morning" ... GOD BLESS

I am praying for all of YOU!

Posted by: Ruthie at May 6, 2003 02:22 PM

First let me say this is a tragedy and I pray for Laci Peterson's family. I can't even begin to imagine what they have gone through. I pray that God is taking care of Laci and little Connor in heaven. They are together now! Saying that I also must say this... I do not attempt to judge anyone because that is not for me to do. I am not God and I am not the Judge and Jury. I do not presume to try & hang someone before he/she ever has their time in court. I cannot say if Scott is guilty or innocent. If feel that way for the Peterson case, as well as any other. As for Scott Peterson's guilt or innocence, there is simply just not enough evidence either way, for me personally, to even make a personal thought in my mind. Not enough evidence to 100% convince me that he is innocent OR guilty. There is a lot of talk and circumstantial evidence, lots of rumors, etc... There is evidence that 90% of us would see as proving Scott Peterson as innocent, YET, the remaining 10% would see it as proving his guilt. Even with facts in front of them they say he is guilty. People can say I am crazy, whatever, but I have always been known as the very fair person that tries my best to see both sides, to see the facts, BEFORE I state something like this, before I say a person should die, or, go to prison for the rest of their life.

I have many questions, for both the Prosecution and Defense stand-points. Just for an EX: Why did/does the Modesto Police absolutely refuse to check out all of these leads and witnesses that we keep hearing of, that keep coming forward? Witnesses have actually taken it upon themselves to go ahead and call the police, to tell them what they know, or what they saw, to ensure they have done the right thing, their duty as a good citizen, etc... YET... calls were never returned to witnesses and to this day no one showed up at their homes to talk with them. A few of these witnesses have even called the police back, after never hearing from them, SEVERAL TIMES! Why haven't the police REALLY checked out ALL LEADS AND ALL WITNESSES, as they keep stating for the newspapers and media?? Honestly, I find this truly scary, as should every other American. What if this were you in Scott Peterson's position, or your own son or daughter? Wouldn't you expect all leads, all witnesses, to be checked out? After all, it could mean the difference in your living or dying. In whether you go free or spend your life in prison, until you die! Scary! And there are more things for Scott Peterson's side I would ask the police and prosection. Why do they absolutely refuse to believe four or five persons that have absolutely, without a doubt, stated that they KNOW they saw Laci Peterson that day walking her dog. They saw her in the park and they knew what she was wearing, etc... Yet they are treated as worthless and liars.

The police and prosecution simply refuse to hear it & refuse to accept it. ?? Going so far as to even say that these people MUST have seen a "look-alike." Come on! Telling ALL of these witnesses that it just could NOT be Laci that they saw! They tell these witnesses that some women in the area, one not even pregnant for about two months by then, are basically dead-ringers for Laci and they had to have seen them, not Laci. The way I see it they are basically saying that each and every witness, every neighbor, etc... is lying and they just don't know what they are talking about. They don't know what they saw. Get real people. There is just no way that EVERYONE is completely wrong!

As for the prosectution side, yep, there are most definitely things that are strange and that do bother me. I admit that. *Just too long to go into here*

But we all need to remember... He is innocent until proven guilty. Another right of being an American. It makes me sick to see how the media tries and convicts people on television. Sickening! They are there to report the news, not to be biased, to state their opinions, or LEAN one way or another!

We do not all show our pain and grief, our deepest feelings and emotions, in the same way. There is NO WAY we could possibly know how we would feel, or what we would do in this circumstance. We can say all kinds of things, but the truth is... we do not know! You can't know until it happens, plain and simple. Yet, I would like to believe that we would show more heart, more emotion, than Scott did. But, being emotionless, or doing a few stupid things does not make one guilty of double murder!! I have heard and read he is not one to really show his emotions, especially in public. There is nothing wrong with that.. at least not in my own opinion. I am a very private person also! It is just NOT for my friends, my family, the media, my neighbors, or the local police, to tell me how I should or shouldn't feel, or how I should act, or what I should say, whether I should be crying or laughing, or whatever. Hell, you don't even know yourself what to do, so how in the heck could these other people know? And what right is it of ours to say how he should grieve?

Maybe Scott acted as he did, no comments, a bit arrogant at times, because no more than did his wife disappear, it also now comes out that he had an affair with Amber Frey. Oh know.. how could a man do that to his wife, especially when she is about 8 months pregnant? Well, this definitely DOES NOT put him in the best light. It sure doesn't put him in my fav list, and I am sure not in Laci's family fav list either! But, it also doesn't make him guilty!! LIke it or not, that is the plain truth! He now knows that to Laci's family, the media and most of the general public, this makes him look really bad and really guilty. More than likely he immediately gets on the defensive! I would bet on it. I know I would be ready. Suddenly it seems EVERYONE has turned on him! And to top it off, now the police are watching him too. Suspect Number One!

He hasn't really had time to think, to be completely upset, or to grieve, because besides all the above... NOW the media is camped out at his house and all the other family members homes as well! Constantly hounding him, constantly writing anything they see or hear, whether is is really the truth or not. Now his phones are ringing off the hook, his answering machine and voice mail is being bombarded! The media becomes literally like leeches! Everywhere he goes people are watching him, talking about him, and just plain whispering behind his back, if not to his face. He knows that he will be suspect #1, if not already, and judged by everyone, including by the police. Plus he was burglarized, so was his neighbors, yet the police basically immediately say it has nothing to do with Laci, or that situation. And don't forget that Laci's family has turned on him too! ETC... ETC...

He doesn't know, or so we hope, where his wife is and he doesn't know whether Laci is dead or alive, or whether is unborn son, Connor, is dead or alive! You know that he has to realize there is a great possibility his wife is already dead, that she may never return to him. That he will never see his son. What a burden to carry, what a horrible, horrible reality to have to deal with and live through. Personally, I choose not to judge until I know the facts, until I see the REAL evidence...ALL of it! I refuse to listen to the media and read message boards online, etc... and read where all the people have already judged him, made up their minds, no matter what. They just KNOW he is guilty already and that he should die for it. Honestly, that makes me ashamed!

I have read the above and must admit I basically agree with all that was said. In my opinion it is well said Susie. What happened to Laci and her baby, Conner, is a total horror and totally unimaginable, but we still have a process to follow and it must be done, like it, or not.

We do NOT have all the facts, we do NOT know about all the evidence, and there is just no way that we can presume to judge someone like this. God I hope nothing like this ever happens to me! People, we should never automatically make up our minds, deciding a person's innocence or guilt, without the cold, hard facts! Unless you are the prosecution, defense, or Scott Peterson... YOU DO NOT KNOW!
We are not God, Judge or Jury!

Everyone is deciding that Scott Peterson is just automatically guilty, that he should die, before he ever even goes to trial? I have heard this stated many times on television, I have read it in newspapers, in articles, and online, on message boards just like this one, and it just isn't fair, nor is it right! I thought that we Americans were a much better people than that. We don't have a clue what the evidence is, we have no idea what the facts really are, YET, it seems that almost everyone in the United States has judged him already and say he is guilty. It seems that no one has truly even considered that Scott Peterson JUST MIGHT BE telling the complete and 100% truth!

No matter what the crime, no matter how horrible it may be, no matter if a person is guilty, or innocent, that person still gets, he/she DESERVES, his day in court! A fair court of law! I can guarantee that each of you out there would not only want your day in court if this were you, but you would DEMAND your day in court! Maybe he killed Laci and Conner... maybe he didn't, we just all need to remember that like it or not, he is innocent 'until proven guilty' by a court of law, judged and sentenced by a jury of his own peers!

He deserves a fair trial and honestly I am truly afraid that he may not find a jury that will give him one and that includes a judge too!! Our American system gives us this right and Scott P. deserves it too. If they cannot prove he is guilty, beyond a reasonable doubt, then he should go free. If the prosecution cannot make the case, Scott Peterson should go free, simple as that! But, if he is guilty of this horrible crime, you bet, HE SHOULD DIE ... HE SHOULD FRY! My personal opinion! Let's just give him his day in court, let us hear the facts, see the evidence, and not make a definite decision until then.

I have many questions too and have asked the very same questions about witnesses and leads, as I am sure many people have. Why haven't the police talked to all witnesses? Why haven't they returned phone calls or gone to personally speak to witnesses?? They continue to state they have followed all leads and have interviewed all of the witnesses, but that simply isn't true! If it were true the very same witnesses wouldn't still be asking the questions themselves. They would not be telling it on TV, in newspapers, magazine articles, or online. These witnesses have stated point-blank that the police have not bothered to return their calls, and haven't bothered to ask them to come in, or come to their homes to talk about what they saw or know! And it seems since they have completely fixated on Scott Peterson alone, as the sole suspect, no one wants to talk to these other witnesses!! Why is that?

Why has every scenario, every plausible lead that Scott Peterson or the defense team brought to light, been knocked down and played as not even remotely pertinent to the case. Such as; the van that was seen in the neighborhood, by several people? That, along with the two or three men that they all know didn't belong in that neighbor-hood, and weren't yard guys, etc...? How about the News crew that was right there at that location, at the Peterson house, on Dec. 26th? The police keep swearing the neighbors house wasn't burglarized until 26 Dec., yet the News crew was there on that day/date. They would have seen this. Duh! I would think they would have noticed if two or three guys, which obviously would seem out of place completely there, were carrying items out of someone's house. Wouldn't you think? Yet the police say, STILL, that it didn't happen until the 26th of Dec., and that it doesn't have anything at all to do with the Peterson case! It is obvious they refuse to listen and hear what is being said and of course the News crew are liars. The police refuse to even consider, or so it seems anyway, that there just may be others involved, or other scenarios. They have, in more than one's opinion, totally screwed up the investigation. To be honest, I can't help but feel sorry for Scott Peterson, knowing all of this! His entire life hangs in the balance, LITERALLY, and he just may be totally innocent!

What about the park? SEVERAL people saw Laci at the park, if not mistaken. SEVERAL PEOPLE, including her own neighbors, saw her walking the dog down the street, toward the park! What about the witness that said they definitely saw two men either yelling/arguing with her, or talking with her. I believe a witness said that two men were yelling at her, or talking to her, about her dog McKenzie. Saying to make him stop barking, or something like that. This was at 'the park' and it was on 'X-Mas Eve!' And what about the man who was at 'the park' on 'X-Mas Eve' playing with his own dog?? He told them that his dog didn't like other dog and he always watched out for them, to make sure no one got hurt, etc... so he definitely noticed McKenzie that day. And he knows it was X-Mas Eve because he was off of work for the holiday and that was his first day off. He took his dog to the park, unleashed it to let it play catch with a ball, and that is when he saw the Peterson dog. He told the police in no uncertain terms that he never really paid attention to the person with McKenzie, he was mainly watching out for the dog situation, but did remember that it was a shorter, round person, someone pregnant, or just fat, that had McKenzie. And he wasn't sure if it was in his memory that she was wearing blank pants/leggings and a white shirt, OR, if he is remembering that because he later saw it on a poster or on television. But, he is a neighbor to the Petersons and he knows their dog and he knows, without a doubt, that on X-mas eve someone was there at the part with their dog McKenzie, in the morning around 10am or so, and he remembers that the person was kind of short and round/heavy. And what about the neighbor who saw the dog running free, with the leash still attached and muddy? She personally put their dog back into the Peterson yard, not realizing something was wrong at that moment. She just knew the dog didn't normally go free like that, etc... so she put the dog back in the yard. So, there is yet another witness that definitely saw the dog out, coming from the park area, with leash on and muddy, that morning. And checked the time against a store receipt she had, from purchases she made after putting the dog in the yard! As Americans living in a fair and decent society, so we say anyway, I would think we must ask ourselves the following questions, and more:

IS 'EVERY WITNESS' IN THE PETERSON CASE, THOSE STATING THEY DID SEE LACI THAT VERY MORNING, THAT THEY DID SEE HER WALKING HER DOG... A LIAR?? ARE 'ALL' OF THE LEADS GIVEN A TOTAL DEAD-END?

HAVE THE MODESTO POLICE BUNGLED THIS CASE FROM THE VERY BEGINNING? ARE THERE LEADS UNCHECKED AND WITNESSES NOT VISITED, OR TALKED TO? IF SO, WHY??

WAS THERE EVIDENCE THEY FAILED TO GET? WAS THERE EVIDENCE THEY FAILED TO PROPERLY PRESERVE, OR PRESERVE AT ALL? WAS THERE EVIDENCE THERE THAT THE POLICE JUST FAILED TO SEE ALTOGETHER?
*EX: AT THE WATER WHERE BOTH LACI AND CONNER WERE FOUND... IS THERE REALLY ANY EXCUSE THAT WE SHOULD ACCEPT ON WHY THE POLICE DIDN'T MAKE, OR AT LEAST TRY TO MAKE, TIRE IMPRESSIONS, SHOE IMPRESSIONS, ETC...?? SHOULD WE/SCOTT PETERSON JUST HAVE TO ACCEPT WHATEVER THE POLICE SAY? THEY CLAIMED THAT IT WAS EITHER RAINY, OR HAD BEEN RAINY, ETC... THEREFORE THEY COULDN'T MAKE THESE IMPRESSIONS, OR SOME STORY LIKE THIS. I FIND THIS STRANGE SINCE I HAVE WATCHED MANY SHOWS ON FORENSIC'S AND THEY HAVE TAKEN IMPRESSIONS IN THE RAIN, AFTER A RAIN, IN MUD, IN SNOW, ETC... SO WHY COULDN'T THE MODESTO POLICE?

OR, WERE THEY JUST TOO DARN LAZY TO DO THEIR JOBS?? DID THEY JUST AUTOMATICALLY FIXATE ON SCOTT PETERSON, KNOWING HE WAS GUILTY, SO THEY SAY WHY BOTHER TO GATHER EVIDENCE LIKE THAT?

ARE THE MODESTO POLICE ON A ONE TRACK TRIP, CONCERNING THIS CASE? DOES IT NOT EVEN SLIGHTLY SEEM, IN ALL HONESTY, THAT ONCE THEY LATCHED ONTO SCOTT PETERSON, THEY JUST DIDN'T LET GO, WHICH MEANS AVOIDING OR DISMISSING OTHER WITNESSES AND LEADS BECAUSE THEY ALREADY HAD THEIR MAN??

THEY CLAIMED THAT LEADS/WITNESSES JUST POURED IN AND CONTINUE TO COME IN, BY THEIR OWN ADMISSION. YET, DOESN'T IT SEEM THAT ONCE THEY FIXATED ON SCOTT P., EVERYTHING ELSE WAS JUST DROPPED OR IGNORED AND TREATED AS NOT PERTINENT TO THE CASE?? SO WE ASK.. HAVE THEY 'REALLY' CONTACTED ALL WITNESSES AND CHECKED OUT 'ALL' LEADS??

ARE THEY REFUSING TO CHECK INTO OTHER SCENARIOS OR FOLLOW OTHER LEADS BECAUSE IT IS JUST EASIER TO GET SCOTT PETERSON FOR IT AND BE FINISHED WITH IT ALL?

We MUST know these answers and we must learn all of the true facts, see hard evidence...BEFORE... we judge someone, instantly saying that he/she is guilty, without a doubt. As Susie stated above... Scott Peterson IS innocent until proven guilty and we all seem to have forgotten this!

The next time it could very well be you, one of your own children, or another loved one, in this horrendous situation! Wouldn't you want to know that the police are doing their jobs? Doing absolutely EVERYTHING within their power to find out the truth? Don't you want to know that if you are innocent that all witnesses are spoken to and all leads are followed because your very life depends on it?? I know I would!

I, in no way, want to diminish what has happened to Laci and little Connor, it is truly a horrible and horrendous tragedy and act. But, if you sent a man to prison, or sentenced him to die, when he was innocent, that would also be a truly horrible and horrendous act as well!

Posted by: Douglas at September 27, 2003 04:09 AM

I must say that I agree with both writings above. Well said, both of you. In this country we are supposed to be innocent, until proven guilty, yet it seems lately we are tried and convicted in cases like this automatically and our wonderful Media leads the way. We just make up our minds automatically about things, without ever seriously considering the true facts, or actually seeing the hard evidence. We estimate, guesstimate, and speculate, and then once we do make up our minds, we just shut down. We refuse to see things for what they really are, or what they turn out to be in the end, because we've already decided and made up our minds.

Honestly, I thought that we had more fair-minded people in our country. That we believe in truth and justice, in a "fair" trial and court system, and being honest and doing things the 'right' way. I also thought that we Americans were alot more open-minded than we actually are, but it seems that I was totally wrong in this area as well. Just about everything I have seen or read lately leads us in the direction of guilt, in the Laci Peterson case. We are led to believe that Scott Peterson is guilty, without any doubts, and he should be sentenced to die, or spend life in prison, no parole! We don't have all the facts, we don't have any clue as to what the REAL evidence is, yet we already know that he is guilty, 100%, none-the-less. He should die or go to prison and rot!

I must agree with Susie above; reading all of the articles and message boards online, seeing just what is being promoted and said, does really make me feel ashamed at times to be an American. I never thought I would say that because I truly do love America, but when I see how quickly our great Truth, Freedom, Liberty and Justice can fly out the window, THAT IS SCARY! It makes me a bit ashamed. We are the United States of America. We are World Leaders and a Super Power! Our great country stands for Freedom, Truth, Liberty and Justice... FOR ALL PEOPLE! Isn't this why others wish to live in our great country? Lately I wonder about this very thing and I ask myself, do we REALLY stand for all of those things, or is it all yackk and talk? Does it truly apply to EVERYONE within the United States, or, do we pick and choose which people will receive them and which won't? I choose to believe it stands for everyone, all the time, in the U.S. and you can call me totally naive if you wish, but, I really do believe that we Americans are the greatest people in the world and that we will do the right thing in the end, as always, and you won't let me down!

What happened to Laci and Connor is one of the most horrible things to happen to someone. I pray for the families of all concerned. I cannot imagine the pain this must have brought and I hope that I never do have experience it. And as much as I feel for everyone involved, as horrible as this all is, we still MUST do the right thing. If Scott is guilty, he should pay for it and either go to prison, or be sentenced to die. But, if he is innocent, we must accept this and let him go on with his life.

His guilt or innocence must be determined by the courts and by a jury of his peers, not by the rest of us. He deserves a fair trial no matter what and he deserves a jury made up of honest and open-minded people. Those who are willing to go in and really see, really listen, and who will determine his fate the RIGHT way. Jurors who won't succumb to outside pressure, who will see the facts, see the evidence, and determine Scott Peterson's life on these things and not be what others think and feel, to include themselves. It must be on the real facts, real hard evidence, and on Truth and Justice, on fair ground. Let's stop convicting him before we know the facts and let our courts and jurors do their job, as we know they can. And let's remember that we are ALL innocent, until PROVEN guilty!
