150 pounds of new sand. Filled the water up a little higher than normal. Backwashed the filter and then rinsed for 30 seconds. Now the pump is running on filter. I put my hand across the outlet and there was no sand spitting out. Now I am waiting for a another Spring opening kit to come from intheswim.com so I can start all over again. I think my theory was correct. The water was too low and the toy jamming the flap closed caused the system to suck in air, instead of water. It got the sand agitating inside the filter and it was getting sucked up into the outlet hose. When the kit gets here, I am going to take the cover off, vacuum up the sand that's on the bottom, to waste. I don't want to uncover it right now. I can see, by peaking under the cover, that the water looks pretty nasty right now.
