Local Fire

I kept hearing sirens outside last night. It was about 11:00pm. They were coming from all directions and sounded pretty close. I peeked out the kitchen window and noticed the column of smoke. I walked to the end of the block and tried to make out where it was coming from. It seemed like it was the commercial corridor along a busy street several blocks north. I was hoping it wasn't someone's home. I went out into the backyard and snapped several pictures of the column of smoke. I could see the glow of the fire and see embers rising in the air. I kept hearing popping noises too. I don't know if it was the windows or what. Next morning, I drove up Rosecrans and saw where the fire had been. It looks like the firemen managed to save the Kragen Auto Parts, which is good. That would be full of chemicals and stuff you wouldn't want burning. And, the Payless Supermarket made it through unscathed. That may be due to the buffer between it and the fire. The buffer being the "vault" part of the Bank of America. You can see the ATM machines in the stone facade. However, the lobby part was gutted. There was a Radio Shack, a 98 cent type store and some other small shops. I don't really remember what else was there. I am hoping to get more information about this. I am curious as to whether it may have been arson.
