Find My Blog Here:

Until I fix this one up to where I want it. I've had a blog over on Steve Friedl's site since October 2002. Thank you Steve for so kindly hosting it for me. When I get the time, I will move everything over here. I've just been so busy lately.

Katharine Hepburn

May 12th, 1907 - June 29th, 2003

Another great actress. I loved her movies. Especially, The African Queen, The Philadelphia Story and almost all the movies that she did with Spencer Tracy.

Carnival of Souls (1962)

I saw this movie on our local PBS station one Halloween night. It was on at midnight and I watched it with all the lights off. It scared me half to death. I rated it as one of my favorite horror films. I had grown up with all the Halloween, Friday the 13th and Freddy Krueger type slasher films. But, this one, from 1962, I loved. Turns out it is somewhat of a cult classic. And, they finally got around to releasing it on DVD. My oldest daughter, Helena, spied it at a store and bought me the DVD for Christmas. I finally got around to watching it today, along with my dad and my sister. My dad loves this movie too. One of the reasons is because he grew up in Utah and used to go to the Salt Air amusement park, whose ruins figured prominently in the plot. If you ever get a chance to see this one, watch it. (With the lights on!)

It Never Fails.....

It always seems to work out this way..... I had been making sure I had been doing this one part of my job every day. The one day I forget to do it, is the day my boss checked up on me. Argh!!!!! Now, he thinks I haven't been doing it all along!

Just what we need.... Another domain name! But, I have been having this idea kicking around in my head for quite awhile. Mike and I are going to tear down our '66 Volkswagen Beetle and then restore it from the ground up. I thought of taking pictures of our progress and writing messages to go with them. So, last night, I went to Dotster, and grabbed the domain www.project66bug.com. Mike and I both thought it would be easier to updater using a blog type format. So, we got Moveabletype going over there too. He's already made an entry, I will be adding more before pictures, so people can see just how ugly this bug is that we've been driving....

Short and Cute

I got this in my e-mail today, and I had to share it!:

A man left work one Friday afternoon. But instead of going home, he stayed out the entire weekend, hunting with the boys and spending his entire paycheck.

When he finally appeared at home, Sunday night, he was confronted by his very angry wife and was barraged for nearly 2 hours with a tirade about his actions.

Finally his wife stopped the nagging and simply said to him "How would you like it if you didn't see me for 2 or 3 days?"

To which he replied, "That would be fine with me."

Monday went by and he didn't see his wife. Tuesday and Wednesday came and went and he didn't see her.

On Thursday, the swelling went down just enough where he could see her a little out of the corner of his left eye.

Augh! Monday!

I should have known that today was going to go bad. As soon as I woke up, I just felt like it wasn't going to be a good day. As I was making lunch for work, a PB & J sandwich, I dropped the bread with the peanut butter on it onto the floor. Fortunately, it landed peanut butter side up. Now some would maybe take that as a good omen, but I figured that dropping it in the first place wasn't a good start to the day. I had a late start. And, for some reason, I was real sluggish at work today. Oh, and for some reason, the drivers seemed worse than usual. Worse than usual for Los Angeles traffic. What is it with turn signals? Why can't people use them!? Argh! Hmmmm..... I almost feel better getting that out of my system! Hopefully, tomorrow will go better.

Not Something One Sees Every Day

I was reading in today's Los Angeles Times about the old Boeing 707 Air Force One being retired. It was moved to the Ronald Reagan library in Simi Valley. It was trucked over 100 miles. They removed the wings from the fuselage. Still, it would have been something to see.

From the article:

Reagan logged more miles on Air Force One 631,640 than any of the six other presidents who flew on it. Those included Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and both George Bushes. Burson noted that Reagan made several key trips on the plane, including historic conferences with former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev and history-changing summits in Geneva in 1985, Reykjavik in 1986 and Moscow in 1988.

Air Force One was an official presidential aircraft for 28 years before it was retired in 2001. Its last flight was on Sept. 8, 2001, when several dignitaries were flown from Edwards Air Force Base in the Mojave Desert to the San Bernardino airport, where it was greeted by Nancy Reagan, then stored and disassembled, said library spokeswoman Melissa Giller.

Another Milestone

Sigh.... Today, our youngest "graduated" from Junior High school and will be starting High School in the fall. That's her in the center, wearing the pants. (They wanted the girls to wear dresses, but Teresa thought that was sexist and chose to wear pants.) More images can be found here.

Just watched this movie tonight on DVD. I really liked it. It was different. It's about a guy, (Played by Guy Pearce), who has lost his short term memory. And, he wants to find his wife's killer. I don't want to give too much away. I have to warn you though, you must give this movie your complete attention. Or, you will not know what's going on.

Gregory Peck

Goodbye to a fine actor. I loved him in To Kill A Mockingbird, as Atticus Finch.

Why I Love My Dog

I was heading out to my sister's house the other day. I took our dog, Pepper, with me because she likes to play with my sister's dog, Smokey. I needed to get gas, so I pulled into a station near our house. As I was pulling in, I noticed a vagrant that I've seen around the neighborhood. He was hitting up some guy for some change at one of the pumps. They vagrant spotted me pulling in. I pulled up to the pump island that was farthest away from where he was standing, hoping that he would not bug me. No such luck. As I was about to exit the car, he approached. Pepper, seeing him approach, jumped onto my lap and stuck her head out my window, which was slightly open. She never does this. The guy stopped about 3-4 feet away from the car and hit me up for some change. I told him, "No!" Well, I thought he would leave. But, he stood about 5 feet from me. I intended to pay at the pump with the credit card. I guess I could have left and gone to another station, but the Escort was running on fumes and I wasn't even sure if it would make it to the next closest gas station. So, I rolled down the window about halfway. Enough for Pepper to get out, if she needed to. I took out my card and then held my wallet, under my arm tightly while I ran the card through the card reader. I then put it back into my wallet and tossed my wallet into the open driver's window of the car onto the passenger side floor. The passenger door was locked. The only way he could get to the wallet would be to enter through the driver's door. And, I don't think he was about to do that, not with Pepper sitting there watching his every move. After I tossed the wallet into the car, he walked away. What a relief. That is one of the reasons I love travelling with a dog. They make me feel a little more secure.

Woo hoo!!!! I got paid today! And.... I spent most of it already! I do intend to throw money at our debt, but I wanted to celebrate today. So, part of it I spend on pizza. I had three delivered to the house and gave the driver a generous tip. I also paid back my oldest daughter some money I had borrowed from her awhile back. (I hate borrowing money off my kids, it seems like it should be the other way around, huh?). I have some left still, I will use that to to take Mike out for dinner on Father's Day. Which is this Sunday.

A Moment of Silence Please

Just kidding!!!! Anyway, according to this article on MSNBC's page, they will no longer be producing the original Volkswagen Beetle. They were still producing them down in Puebla, Mexico. In it's 70 year history, 22 million models were produced. Mike and I have a 1966 Beetle.

Day Two (Job)

I did a little better today. I'm still slow, but I went faster than yesterday. I don't hurt as much either. All the dogs are little lap type dogs. No large breeds. They are so cute. I thought I would have a headache due to the cacophony of high pitched barks, but I have gotten used to it. There are some West Highland Terriers who took advantage of my newness and made a break for it yesterday. I managed to round them up and put them back. They didn't mess with me today. I had the water hose in my hand when I went into their kennel!

New Job

Today, I started a new job. I haven't worked in over 16 years. Mike and I got married back in 1986. We wanted to start a family right away, so I quit work and became a stay-at-home mom. But, it wasn't always easy. We have lived from paycheck to paycheck. I intended to go back to work as soon as our youngest started high school. But, a job opportunity came up sooner. I am working at a kennel. The job is labor intensive, but I don't mind. It pays good. And, I don't mind dealing with dogs and puppies. I would rather deal with them, than people. Since I started today, I was really slow. Hopefully, I will get everything down and pick up my pace. So, if you don't see me posting as much, you know why.

Hiking in the Local Mountains

Last Friday, at the spur of the moment, my sister called and wanted to know if I wanted to go hiking in the local mountains on Saturday (yesterday). So, we went and took our dogs. Pepper, my dog, and her dog, C.C. and Smokey. The dogs had a blast. It was a 6 mile hike. We stopped a little over halfway and sat down in the shade and had lunch. We found a stream, and the dogs had fun playing in the water. I took a lot of pictures and will post them later. I ache a little bit today. And, for some reason, my left foot really hurts. It was fine during the hike. But, after we drove home, (it took about and hour), when I got out of her truck, my ankle was killing me. I have it in a brace right now, which makes it feel a little better. And, I'm not limping as bad as I was last night.
